What are the Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Awards?

The Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Awards is a community grant program from the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. It provides large-scale grants to help Arizona nonprofits grow their impact. Grants range from $25,000 to $250,000 and fund projects or capital purchases that make an organization more effective and efficient.

  • The program focuses on projects that:
    • Expand a nonprofit’s reach and capacity to serve
    • Improve how services are delivered to the community
    • Provide measurable benefits to clients served
    • Strengthen long-term sustainability and efficiency

Who is eligible for the Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Awards?

  • Organizations must be physically located in Arizona and serve Arizona residents.
  • Applicants must have 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or a fiscal sponsor with that designation.
  • Organizations cannot have received a Grand Slam Award within the past year.
  • Applicants must submit a Letter of Inquiry and, if invited, a Full Proposal.

  • Examples include facility improvements, new equipment, technology upgrades, or program expansions.
  • All projects must be completed, and funds spent, within one year of receiving the grant.

How do vehicle projects fit the program?

  • The Grand Slam Awards fund capital purchases that help nonprofits deliver services more effectively. A vehicle can qualify if it directly supports the organization’s mission and improves how services reach clients.
  • Examples include:
    • Mobile medical units bringing care to underserved neighborhoods
    • Mobile outreach vans delivering supplies or support to those in need
  • The proposal should explain how the vehicle increases capacity, improves efficiency, and benefits the community in measurable ways.
  • Projects should include a plan for how the vehicle will be sustained and maintained after the funding year.
